How much carbon do you put in the environment?
The Native Energy site is good because it is underwritten by a number of credible organizations and the money goes to fund renewable energy. The Sustainable Travel International also funds renewable energy and considers all greenhouse gases, not just carbon. They both have calculators so people can easily calculate their own offset cost. They can give that money to one of those organizations or they can donate that same amount to local projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, like our Forest Garden project that captures carbon from the atmosphere and holds carbon in plants and soils and where they can see the results locally (which donations are also tax deductible because we are a non-profit). Or folks can donate it to a local forest group saving forest that holds carbon, for example, or a large group like Rainforest Action Network (www.ran.org) that is working to reduce emissions a number of ways. We hope our responsible travelers will consider this concept in their plans. See example;
