Although we at Live Well Ventures are all about getting away, we also maintain a passionate interest in what can be done between trips to promote sustainable living. UK's National Business Travel network (NBTN)1, part of the government's ACT on CO2 campaign, is urging business to implement what it calls "smart travel plans" for staff, in order to cut costs and reduce carbon emissions. While latest figures state that only 62% of UK companies help their employees in travelling sustainably to work, the need to reduce costly travel can aid companies in coping in these tough economic times.
Here are some of the ways these businesses are being urged to promote sustainable travel to and from work:
· Encouraging car sharing, thus saving employers money on mileage claims and parking expenses.
· Converting company car fleets to more fuel efficient greener vehicles.
· Offering flexible and home working options.
· Creating bicycle hire schemes.
Heather McInroy, Programme Director for NBTN says; "I am urging all businesses to embrace a modern approach to work travel practices. Business resilience, recruitment, retention and business agility to meet customer demands is at the heart of this issue. It is great to see that such a high percentage of employees would consider buying into a work travel scheme and I hope that employers now act on this. The message is clear flexible workstyles and travel plans are good for the environment, good for business and good for employee well-being.:
We, at Live Well Ventures, also employ sustainable practices here at work. By championing such practices here at home as well as in our travel adventures, we believe that we are doing our part to assist the planet in moving towards change.
