Residents of Dundee, Scotland have been urged to use health and sustainable travel to reduce greenhouse emissions and promote well being. Tagged as "Dundee Travel Active," the program is led by the Dundee City Council and backed by the Scottish Government's Smarter Choices.
Health Minister Shona Robinson states: "It's really important that we provide ways to make it easy for people to be more physically active in their everyday travelling.
"Getting out of the car and off the couch makes us feel better about ourselves and also reduces the risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and stroke.
"The many initiatives which will take place in Dundee through, Smarter Choices Smarter Places over the next two years - and in six other places in Scotland - will provide valuable lessons on how we can get millions moving."
Councillor Will Dawson adds, "We already have a number of exciting and innovative activities lined up to get more people thinking about their health and sustainable travel, including cycle training for families, a personalised travel plan for members of the public and the creation of short-term bicycle rental schemes." |
