Like all activities in the remote and extreme polar regions, diving in Antarctica is influenced by unpredictable weather and ice conditions.  It takes time and dedication to explore the best diving possibilities and to find the prime locations.  With more than 15-years experience, Waterproof Expeditions has the expertise and knowledge needed to make your Antarctic dive experience the best-ever - they are THE Antarctic dive professionals.

In February 2010 Waterproof Expeditions organized the Elysium Expedition in cooperation with Ocean Geographic Society and facilitated the dive operation and the vessel and took care of the operations around this spectacular epic voyage in the footsteps of Ernest Shackleton. At they same time they supported and operated the photo- and film production of Ashes and Snow from cinematographer and artist Gregory Colbert. Ashes and snow is an ongoing project that weaves together photographic works, 35mm films, art installations and a novel in letters.”

Amos dove Antarctica for the first time in the late 70' when he  and a group of sailors circumnavigated the world on three years journey. The team  had sailed along the West coast of Antarctica from Australia , on the way to South America , and dove in numerous places along the frozen coast.

In 1999 Amos was elected to be a guest lecturer/photographer on board one of the cruise  ships cruising from Argentina to the Falklands, South Georgia ( the sub-Antarctica Islands) and along the Antarctica peninsula. On that voyage Amos coached a team of photographers  on how to film and photograph  in the ice environment  - scenic landscapes, and penguins.

During that rewarding and eye opening cruise , he pioneerd an ambitious diving expedition...21 days diving the course of the most respected and revered explorer -  Sir Ernest Shackleton,  from  the Falkland to South Georgia Island s and on to the Antarctic peninsula

His company, BigAnimals Expeditions,  started offering diving  expeditions to Antarctica in 2002, and in 2004 he fulfilled his diving dream with a team of 24 divers, along the route of the great explorer.

BigAnimlas is leading one team to Antarctica each year during the prime time,  seeing Leopard Seals in February and March. During  this time period visitors witness the largest concentration of Penguin adults and  babies, and hopefully witness the notorious feeding behaviors of the Leopard Seal!

Last year, 2009 ,  Amos lead another ambitious expedition to Antarctica , three weeks on board 74' specially designed sailboat in order to  film Leopard Seals and the feeding action.

Diving Antarctica is a unique experience for the advanced diver.  Not just ice, but marine life seemingly from another planet, such as the Giant Isopods and salps. Seals race fearlessly by, graceful in a way not possible above the surface. Sunlight from above creates a stunning, ever-changing spectrum of color among the diverse benthos. Take your time to explore an environment few divers have ever experienced: the kelp walls, sea snails, crabs, sea butterflies, shrubby horsetails, jellyfish, squid, sea hedgehogs, starfish, krill and various Antarctic fish.

The waters of the Southern Ocean also support an economically important world fishery of fin fish, squid and krill, and the waters of the Southern Ocean affect all other world oceans. The beautiful surroundings of the Antarctic Peninsula is a paradise for all divers, adventurers, naturalists and photographers with its amazing array of colours and moods and diverse wildlife.
